Bloodsport - 109

The JCVD mania continues four episode with a classic martial arts film that far exaggerates its source material: Bloodsport. While far from a perfect film it is surprisingly good for what it is - a trope-y martial arts story. We do go into the truthiness of the man who this films like “was based on” and how 2019 his antic were, because it is crazy.

Cyborg - 108

We kick off our Jean-Claude Van Damme four episode focus with a film that Caleb remembers as being good, but… is very bad. Cyborg is possibly the worst film we have ever covered on this show actually. Enjoy Alex and special guest Brandon Baptiste as we trudge through a nonsensical plot, discuss Bloodsport far too much, and how this movie actually made a ton of money.

The Lion King - 055

The animation, the voice acting, the music, the feels.  The Lion King has it all and is one of the all time classics that came out of the resurgence that Disney has in the early 90’s.

Brandon leads the stampede of memories as Geekquatch looks back at everything that made this movie great. Just remember to stay out of the elephant graveyard.  Hakuna Matata!

The Cryptogeekology: 20 questions category this week is movie.  It may or may not be a quick one, so listen closely if you want to beat the cast to the solution.

The NeverEnding Story - 051

Now that the film’s theme song is officially stuck in your head for the rest of the day, you might as well join Geeksquatch for a trip back to Fantasia. So, hop on the back of Falkor and let’s go!

Caleb steps up and takes you on a deep dive into the magical world originally created by German author Michael Ende.  Nevermind the fact that he didn’t actually like the film, because the gang covers all of the goodness crammed into its 93 minutes.  From Atreyu and Artax to Morla and Gmork, it’s all here.  You’ll even finally learn the name of Bastian’s mom’s name (Spoilers, it’s Moon Child).

Cryptogeekology: 20 Questions closes the show with the TV category.  Heather’s win streak is on the line and it comes down to the wire.  Find out if Colin can save the team yet again.

Gremlins - 049

Popping into life from a script that was never meant to be made into a film, produced by Steven Spielberg and helmed by a rising horror director, Gremlins made a giant splash in the summer of 1984. Which is odd since it’s a Christmas movie.

Colin hosts this week as he feeds the regular crew, sans Jaime, after midnight. The unlikely origins of the film, it’s cast, and production challenges are all discussed as well as that crazy ‘why I don’t celebrate Christmas anymore’ monologue that creeps us all out.

As always, we close the show out with Cryptogeekology: 20 Questions. Heather joins us again and the gang struggles with a new topic: Actor. See if you can guess who it is before they do.

Mega Man X - 045

The original Mega Man games had a great run on the original Nintendo, but the series had gotten stale.  Capcom had maxed out their creativity over six annualized games and, given the processing power that was available on the NES, the franchise was due for an evolution.  Enter Mega Man X.  Released a few years into the Super Nintendo life cycle, Mega Man X lived up to the expectations of longtime fans and is still considered one of the best mega man games ever created.

Caleb takes you deep into the greatness.  The Geeksquatch crew dive into the game’s lore, evolved gameplay, and fan community that took the Mega Man universe to the next level.

The host then tries to stump the cast in the movie category during Cryptogeekology: 20 questions.  Stick around if you think you know the (nerd) classics.
